It appears that whatever happens, we need an election that refrains from harping on our most contentious social issues in efforts to collect partisan votes, and instead offers substantial, realistic solutions for mending our system in a way that creates an economic space denizens can sustain--and which sustains them. This will earn the right candidate a majority of bipartisan votes.
