Never-mind what conservatism is, what makes 'a conservative'?

Beyond basic tenets of economic reason, let's look at mass, broadly-conceived conservatism.

While, again dreaming of the happy-medium space that allows a [healthy] middle class with ample middle management in a world where we need be managed UP as well as laterally, and down. Where, what we have instead is an ongoing civil cold war of ideals, with an increasing number of individuals becoming caught up in the economically ineffectual cogs.

In the mass conservative's battle against economic equality (the power of the people) so-called conservatives will tell you:

An employee that needs a cost-of-living wage just doesn't handle money well enough.

Mandated minimum wage 'must cause inflation'.

If a person makes less than 100, 000/ year, then maybe they just shouldn't have a smart phone. (Or, any other common device that could render some modern advantage.)

Food stamp recipients shouldn't have freedom of choosing their own groceries, because they'll waste 'my' money. ("No steak for you!" soon turns into 'Soylent food desert' . . . for most.)

Food stamp recipients should never have the freedom to trade their stamps for needed cash. (Idea being that they're inherently incapable of making such economic distinctions necessary in their lives with any available asset, unlike those economically privileged enough to not need the stamps.)

There just shouldn't be food stamps; we will house food in inaccessible warehouses and give it to those we see fit.

If you can't afford healthcare in an economic desert, than you shouldn't have healthcare.

Where do the false assumptions end?

The list of assaulting opinions goes on and on. We could go on with these so-called 'conservative' platitudes that work to limit basic needs being met, but will save that offense for another day.

Our detrimentally lopsided economy is all the false conclusion we need to know that these assumptions do no service to our society. At some point, conservatism just turns into greed. Perhaps, so does liberalism. But . . . these labels.

Sometimes you have to wonder about the tendency of a certain type of conservative to label liberals communists; seems it should be the other way around, doesn't it?

Are conservatives actually better economic managers?
Or, are they simply self-entitled authoritarians?

California moves a big piece of the political puzzle

We've got to give California credit for maintaining its leadership identity, whether or not we appreciate the style of that lead.

Let's See Those Tax Returns!

According to Taxnotes:

Presidents aren’t required by law to release their tax returns. Nevertheless, between 1974 and 2012, every president but Gerald Ford has made a voluntary release of the tax returns they filed while in office. Ford released no complete returns, but released 10 years of summary data including gross income, taxable income, major deductions, and taxes paid.

In a political move of great potential significance, Governor Gavin Newsom signed into law a requirement that all presidential candidates desiring placement on voting ballots disclose their tax returns.

Now, that's a serious kind of progress in roughly an 80/20 wealth-disparate nation where most individuals remain greatly burdened by tax requirements from which they have no hope of hiding, while a healthy portion of that relatively small and economically advantaged percentage manage to hide inside various loopholes. But, we're bound to hear no end to this development from a disgruntled, presumably conservative Trump fan base.

Feels like another case for the courts . . . and guess who pays for all that time and trouble. When you think about how much we all pay for these ongoing stalls to equality, progress, and basic truths, you begin to realize how truly unworthy so many representatives may be. While most seem to ride along the status quo, only a few stand strong in furtherance of the better interests of the people as a whole.

Twitter Politics: Users Address Ongoing Disagreement Among Democratic, Republican Adherents Regarding Mueller Testimony

It seems that no matter how long investigation continue, no matter how obvious the indications of behavior, people cannot thread the needle on a resolution to the problem of ungovernable leadership.

What will it take, to come together in resounding support from both sides for leadership that takes our interests forward as a nation of people whose interests are being regularly ignored?
